I think it’s safe to say that River Song might not be human. I’m not saying that I think she definitely isn’t, but I do think there’s a good chance she’s not. Here are a few reasons why.
1. The Daleks fear HER.
Who can forget that epic moment in “The Big Bang” when the Dalek said she would show it mercy because she was a friend of the Doctor’s. She tells it to check its records again for “River Song”. The Dalek then begins to tremble and begs her for mercy before she shoots it. What Dalek would be THAT terrified of a human? I just don’t ever see that happening. Also, that one moment showed a different side to River. A quick glimpse into something a little darker in her. Slightly sinister…and evil. It was odd.
2. She didn’t forget about the Doctor after the second Big Bang.
At the end of the last season, the Doctor flew the Pandorica into the burning TARDIS. River explained to Rory and Amy that they would forget about him. All memories of him would be erased. They did, for a while. Amy remembered the Doctor with the Doctor’s help, of course, but River Song never forgot. Maybe I missed this part but: was it ever explained how she remembered the Doctor? Or how she knew to deliver the journal to Amy? The Doctor once told Amy that being in the TARDIS changed her mind, the way she saw the universe was different, and that’s why she didn’t forget about the Clerics in “Flesh and Stone” when they were consumed by the crack in time. Could there be something more than human about River Song?
3. Father Octavian’s words.
In “Flesh and Stone”, father Octavian told River to make sure the Doctor never found out “who or what” she was. Who or WHAT. What. Moffat writes everything for a reason. Down to every What.
4. She’s held in a high security prison that knows nothing of Earth.
River is in prison. A prison that was (in The Impossible Astronaut) being guarded by a man who thought America was a planet. He obviously had no idea what the US was, so I’m guessing he would have had no idea what Earth was. If they were holding a human prisoner in their compound, wouldn’t they know the origin of a human? Or wouldn’t they at least have documented the origin of one of their most troublesome inmates?
There are many more reasons, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head right now.
Whovians: discuss?
This character is brilliantly written and I actually LOVE how much her storyline baffles me.
River Song is Ford Prefect’s great great great daughter or something.
I mean, look at this gif:
She gets kicked out of a spaceship and is like “bye, bitches. I ain’t even bovvered by the lack of oxygen up in here”. WHY? Because she knows where her towel is, of course. She knows a spaceship with a heart of gold will pick her up. A spaceship like the TARDIS. Besides, her name is River Song. River Song. Ford Prefect. Sorry but only hitchhikers have such names. And I bet she knows the Doctor’s name because she found it out while doing her research for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. You sass those hitchhikers, those froods have unique means of collecting information.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide has this to say about the Doctor:
The Doctor is worse than everybody’s aunt and has been running around the universe for a few centuries. Not much is known about him but of 3 things you can be certain:
1. Never put him in a trap.
2. If there’s a child crying, he’ll surely try to help.
3. If you’re one of his enemies, well, basically, run.
